SDG&E EV charger rebates for businesses (2026)
SDG&E's Power Your Drive programs for apartments, condos and workplaces are closed (SDG&E: "The program is fully subscribed. We are no longer accepting applications."), which is why San Diego multifamily owners see fewer options than Bay Area owners. Two things are open for business sites now: Power Your Drive for Fleets for medium- and heavy-duty fleets, and the County of San Diego Public EV Charger Incentive Pilot for publicly accessible chargers in unincorporated areas, which closes October 23, 2026.
Power Your Drive for Fleets (open)
SDG&E's page shows no closing date. To qualify, a fleet must commit to at least 2 electric fleet vehicles, show a long-term electrification plan and load schedule, report charger data for at least 5 years, and own or lease the site in SDG&E territory and operate the vehicles and chargers for at least 10 years. It covers Class 2 to 8 vehicles such as trucks, buses, airport equipment and forklifts.
- Option 1: SDG&E funds and maintains the infrastructure up to the charging station; you own the chargers.
- Option 2: SDG&E funds to the meter; you own the customer-side infrastructure and get a rebate of up to 80% of its cost.
- Charger rebate for transit agencies, school districts and fleets in disadvantaged communities: up to 50% of charger cost, capped from $3,000 per charger (up to 19.2 kW) to $75,000 per charger (above 150 kW).
SDG&E lists the steps as: interest form, eligibility check by an SDG&E representative, formal application, then design and engineering (6 to 9 months) and construction (3 to 4 months) before activation.
County of San Diego Public EV Charger Incentive Pilot (open until October 23, 2026)
For publicly accessible chargers on private property in unincorporated San Diego County only. The city of San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside and the other incorporated cities are not eligible, and neither are federal, state, tribal or single-family sites. Round 1 runs June 25 to October 23, 2026. The county pays the lesser of a fixed cap or 75% of cost: up to $5,000 per Level 2 charger, $50,000 per 50 to 99 kW DC fast charger, and $75,000 per DC fast charger of 100 kW or more. Per-site caps are $30,000 for Level 2 ($36,000 in Equity Priority Areas) and $225,000 for DC fast charging ($255,000 in Equity Priority Areas).
What is not available
- Power Your Drive for apartments, condos and workplaces: closed to new projects.
- San Diego APCD Carl Moyer infrastructure: the district page still reads "currently open until May 15, 2026 at 5PM", a date that has passed. Treat it as between rounds until the district posts a new cycle.
- City of San Diego: no direct charger rebate.

Getting it built in SDG&E territory
Power Your Drive for Fleets is a utility-led build: SDG&E designs and builds the infrastructure under Option 1, or funds to the meter under Option 2 while your contractor builds the rest. For the county pilot, you install and the county reimburses after completion within the program deadlines.
Who files the rebate applications is usually the site owner, or the installer or charging provider on the owner's behalf. Some providers offer turnkey projects (design, permits, install and paperwork for one price) or revenue-share and charging-as-a-service deals where they fund part of the equipment and share charging revenue. Both can work; compare the contract length, who keeps the rebates and LCFS credits, and what happens at the end of the term. More detail on the San Diego County page.
Where EVgpo fits: EVgpo sources chargers at group pricing and sells nationwide. You can ask us for a charger quote and compare it with your installer's.
